My friend the Heron

I forgot to post these...here are a few pics of a lovely heron that was kind enough to pose for me in the Mississippi bayou.

Pic #11 & #12 (or the end of initial posts, hopefully subsequent posts will have real titles)

I received this very cool candle thingie as a wedding favor (sadly, I was unable to attend the wedding, but the lovely couple gave me a gift bag anyway :)). So, I fired it up and took a few pics of it in the dark. I couldn't get rid of the flare, perhaps an aperture problem. But I had my flashlight out and shot it through the gems in the 'fan' and otherwise tried to just use the candle flame for lighting. I'll post 2 of the better shots.

Pic #10

A few days ago I was watching a documentary about Stanley Kubrick's 2001 and I was inspired. So, this is my lame tribute to Kubrick and the floating pen (ignore the glass, I did a poor job of cropping it out, and ignore the tape...I didn't have any double-sided tape on hand).

Pic #9 (I lost count, but I think 9 is correct)

I like this one for several reasons, first: the fury of nature. It's a seagull in the bayou snatching fish guts. It's also cool because I was able to catch the ripples, plus the colors worked out real well.

Pic #8

Since I like spiders and this pic is what I would call another happy accident, here's a cool spider web/spider pic taken on my porch one night. The camera shake was unintentional, as was the weird ghostly glow...I mean, I totally meant to do that :).

Pic #7

Lucky #7...I took this pic while on a little nature walk near my condo. They're connecting a couple roads that run adjacent to my development, and the area looks pretty rough right now. I couldn't help but think of Tatooine when I took this one.

Pic #6 (or Aaron Ross)

This was taken at NY Giants training camp...and I was inspired to post it only because of this post's title...in honor of NY Giants' cornerback (get well for the playoffs!) Aaron Ross.

Pic #5

This one was kind of fun. On my way back to the motel after visiting the MLB Hall of Fame, a storm broke out on I-88 (I think it's 88, it's one of the 80s in New York state). So, I took out the camera and since I'm an autofocus idiot, I kept getting shots of rain drops on my windshield. I call this, happy accident (though there was no actual accident, despite an idiot driving at high speeds on an interstate with one hand on the wheel and the other on the camera).

Pic #4

This was taken down at St. Mary's College. Sadly I was unable to crop out all of civilization, but I liked the colors and as I recall, a friend really liked this one, too. So enjoy.

Pic #2 & #3 (I didn't put a title on the first one...I'm new at this)

Ok, for pic number two, I have chosen, my failed attempt to capture a porpoise in mid-air. My mom and stepfather went out fishing in the Gulf of Mexico on Thanksgiving ('08) and a pod of porpi (just go with it) began swimming and playing next to the boat. Well, one leaped out of the water, wiggled its tail at us and then hit the water. I was unprepared for this momentous event, but managed to get a picture of the splash. So, here's the pic of the splash, and a pic of the dorsel fin just to prove that there were indeed unboated mammals in the area, swimming around.

Ok, for pic number one, I'm going with my candle shot from my company's Christmas party. The fools asked me to take pictures at this function (bwahahahahahahaha) and of course, I had to take a couple artsy ones. Here's my fave.
'allo and welcome to my photo blog. I'm going to try to put up photos, maybe one a week, on this thing to track my progress as a photographer? No, how about to show off when I do something right :). Initially, I'll throw a bunch up here, then hopefully each week, I'll be disciplined enough to TAKE a picture and POST the thing here. Wish me luck.
